Alcohol is a drug. Alcohol alters your mind, body and emotions. Alcohol is a leading cause of death among youth. Alcohol is by far the most used and abused drug among America's teenagers. More than 1,700 college students in the U.S. are killed each year, as a result of alcohol related injuries.

Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Every year 448,000 people die as the result of tobacco related health consequences; mainly heart disease, cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. A single cigarette contains over 4,000 chemicals. More than 60 of these chemicals are carcinogens. Carcinogens change the DNA structure of cells, which can lead to cancer. Every day 3,000 children under the age of 18 smoke their first cigarette. Of those 3,000 children, 1,000 will become regular smokers. The reason being that nicotine, the drug in tobacco is a very highly addictive substance.

Some people abuse drugs. Anyone, who abuses drugs can become dependent on drugs. Prescription drugs, illegal drugs and over-the-counter drugs can all be abused.
